Aly Kanani, BSc, MSc, DMD, MSEd, MSc
Every day I come to work, and I help my patients achieve healthy, beautiful smiles. I enjoy getting to know each person individually and watching their confidence grow as their smile develops. Being an orthodontist means a lot to me, and I can’t imagine doing anything else!
My dental and orthodontic education has resulted in the following degrees and accolades:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Physiology at McGill University in Montreal
- Masters of Science on Economics at the London School of Economics in London, England
- Doctor of Dental Medicine degree at the University of Pennsylvania, an Ivy League University
- Masters in Education degree also from the University of Pennsylvania
- Masters of Science degree and Certificate in Orthodontics from the University of Detroit Mercy, in Michigan
- Fellow of the Royal College of Dentists in Canada FRCD(C)
- Certified Specialist in Orthodontics for children, teens, and adults
- Certified as an Invisalign Provider for teens and adults
Orthodontics is constantly changing, and I participate in over 100 hours of continuing education to ensure my patients receive the most comfortable, efficient, and lasting orthodontic treatments. Before I committed to practicing orthodontics full time, I was a Clinical Assistant Professor at the UBC Dental School.
As a part of my continuing studies, I am the Orthodontics Director of the Northwest Dental Study Club, a Seattle Study Club affiliate. I am also a Director of the Fraser Valley Dental Society, and I regularly attend the Canadian and American Association of Orthodontists Annuals Educational Conventions, as well as the Invisalign Orthodontists Summit.
Align Technology, the manufacturers of Invisalign, have titled me as an Invisaign Provider, one of only three in British Columbia, and one of only a few in North America based on the number of Invisalign patients I have successfully treated. I also regularly attend and present at numerous local lectures and study clubs to ensure that my patients are receiving the latest orthodontic care available.
In the Practice
I love the diversity of patients we see in our office. Each person is unique, and I enjoy discovering what makes them so special. The more I get to know our patients, the more I strive to provide the highest quality treatments for them. The human connections I make with patients and families inspires me to do my best.
Our office is all about having fun. We have videogames in the reception area and in the clinical area for our younger and teenage patients. Because our office caters to both children and adults, we have two distinct areas in our reception, with light refreshments and a variety of magazines for our adult patients to enjoy. I know you’ll love coming to see us, and our staff will help you and your family feel right at home here.
Family and Community
I am originally from Richmond and love raising my family in Surrey. My wife, Aliya, and I have one son named Aaryan, and our Chihuahua, Junior. When I'm not at the practice, I enjoy spending time with my family, as well as jogging, volunteering in the community, and reading.
I like to stay involved in the Langley community, and for several years, I have been involved with the Langley Food Bank, Langley Christmas Bureau, and supporting numerous dry grad events and numerous local Langley sports teams. I am founder of the official Surrey Good Deed Awards and the official Surrey Halloween Candy Buy Back Program.
